Job Description:  Controller

 

Reports to:  Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer

Classification:  Non-Exempt

Department/Division:   Accounting

General Scope:  The Controller is responsible for overseeing the calculating, posting, verifying, and typing duties to obtain and record financial data and related files for use in maintaining accounting and statistical records.  

Essential Functions

  1. Oversees the provision of records of assets liabilities, and financial transactions.
  2. Coordinates accounts and records in areas such as disbursements, expenses, and taxes and preparation of income and balance sheets or other consolidated statements.
  3. Confirms operation of the accounting systems, including gathering and reporting correct financial information to management.
  4. Establishes accurate labor rates for proposals and clients.
  5. Invoices clients and works closely with client accounting representatives. Responsible for accounts payable and receivable.
  6. Applies a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verifies documents for completeness and compliance with government and private agencies.
  7. After employees are enrolled in benefit plans, setup employees for payroll deduction and maintains employee records pertaining to employees’ financial and benefit status.
  8. Handles all aspects of payroll.
  9. Assists with contracting and serves as point of contact to clients in financial- and contractual-related tasks.
  10. Assist (as needed) with proposal pricing and preparation.
  11. Uses various software applications to perform the controller’s duties (Ajera, Excel, Word)
  12. Maintains business insurances (liability, vessel, auto, workers comp)
  13. Maintains vehicle and vessel registrations.
  14. Maintains business insurances, occupational licenses
  15. Maintain Project costing records and reconcile the Work in process accounts and prepare project profit and loss reports
  16. Assist CFO and prepare annual budgets

Nonessential Functions

  1. May assist in administrative duties assigned by the company office manager/‌president/‌vice-president.
  2. Other duties as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum of 4 years experience in accounting; minimum Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration; Master’s degree in accounting preferred. 

Special Skills

Able to use Microsoft Office.
