This project involved the collection and analysis of sediment and water samples from several selected sites in the Georgetown Federal Navigation Channel for evaluation of dredged material for disposal in a upland confined disposal facility, for beneficial use, or for ocean disposal. The project area included sampling sites southeast from Georgetown Harbor through Winyah Bay in Georgetown County, South Carolina, to the mouth of the Winyah Bay Entrance Channel. Project dredge depth is 27 feet plus 2 feet paid allowable overdredge. Routine maintenance dredging is conducted in Winyah Bay to maintain channel depth in support of commercial navigation. The Port of Georgetown is South Carolina’s second largest port and handles approximately 1 million tons of bulk cargo annually.
ANAMAR was contracted by USACE to perform sampling activities for a sediment evaluation. The purpose of this project was to collect and analyze sediment, site water, and elutriate samples from specified project locations for physical and chemical parameters. ANAMAR coordinated and directed operations for this project and worked closely with USACE to design sampling and analysis schemes, perform sample collection, subcontract laboratory analyses, and prepare final report deliverables. ANAMAR reviewed all data and produced a report summarizing the results of the physical and chemical analysis of sediment, elutriate, and water samples of the proposed dredge material collected from the project area.
